Class Practice: Advert on Pixlr

Today we looked at advertising in class. We looked at different adverts in class and their different properties like layout, logos and branding, their target audience and how the images were placed in the advert.

In this practice the theme is fashion and I've chosen women's fashion for Gen X

I went unto unsplash and selected some images that I thought would work for my advert. I had decided on  advertising jewelry.

This was the first picture I used, I like that you can tell the highlight is the jewelry pieces and the background of the woman looked nice as well. I think its a bit hard to see the piece and you might be unsure about which of the jewelry is being advertised to so I didn't decide on it.

I also selected this one. It's good that the jewelry is up close and the center of focus but i thought the background was too dark and didn't have enough spacing for my logo and tagline.

This was the final photo I chose. The background is not distracting and the attention is solely on the piece of jewelry. Because of this photo I decided to go with a king of "timeless fashion" theme and made gold jewelry the focus of my brand.

I opened Pixlr E and the created a canvas by clicking on "create new", then "A3" and choosing a white background

I then went to file, clicked on "open image" and then "select all", "edit"  and copied. After that i went to my canvas, clicked on "edit" then pasted it. I also used the crop tool to remove the white edges.

I then went unto freelogodesign and created a logo that suited the concept of selling jewelry. I called my brand "The Golden Label" and chose a logo that represented jewelry. I customized my logo and changed the color palette.

I then added the logo to Pixlr, using the same process I previously used for my image. Using the transform tool I moved the image of my logo to the left hand corner. I also clicked on layer and clicked on "multiply" as the blend mode. I also made my logo bigger.

I then added a text layer, I clicked on the text tool and then clicked on the canvas, adding the text layer in full HD. I then wrote a tagline, changed the font to "MAALANGBRONKS" in italics. I also adjusted the color to black and made the font size 190pts. I aligned the text to the left and placed it on the bottom left corner of my advert.

This is the final advert I exported as png and saved to my computer:

I like this advert I've made. I think I did better than I expected for my first time. Will definitely do a better one next time but I think in terms of balancing the logo, tagline and the image it looks alright.
