Creating an Advert: Initial Ideas
In class we discussed advert layout, typography and target market, branding and logo, We practiced using Pixlr in class and made a practice advert. I now have to think of my own ideas. I want to do a public awareness advert. My ideas are :
An awareness campaign for depression in teens
An awareness advert for breast cancer
Firstly I would look at examples of campaigns addressing depression in teens
Depression awareness
This advert is clear that it is targeting teenagers. It has a clear slogan with an image to visualize it. I think it is good and addresses that most teenagers pretend to be okay when they're not by hiding behind a smile. It also shows some information and where to go/call for help.
Transforming mental health through research
I like this approach to the advert. It shows Gillian Anderson ( who is the actress posing for this campaign ) swearing. The scribbled out word is a swear word which most people will be able to fill out. The campaign is kind of calling people to "swear" to help take on mental illness in youth.
The second one i will look at is an awareness advert for breast cancer. If I decide to go with this my target audience will be generation X and older women specifically.
This advert concept is really easy to grasp and the use of lemons to show different signs of breast cancer is very clever. It isn't something meant to panic the viewer but is informative
This advert is more simple and uses the colours associated with breast cancer. It doesn't go into too much detail like the last one and doesn't talk about the symptoms. It is more of a reminder to always check with your doctor.
After looking at the examples I decided to go with an awareness advert for breast cancer. I wanted to do an informative concept about something that mainly affects middle aged and older women ( generation X and up). Posters that address these issues are generally simple and easy to grasp. Since it isn't an ad for something to purchase but for things regarding your health and safety I feel women in this generation are more likely to take note of it.
