Major Project: Initial Ideas

In this term I will be working on a project that represents my progression route. I have been looking more into sustainability so I would like to do something that involves that. My portfolio will consist of 2-4 design boards that shows my concept

I was thinking of doing something that has to do with landscape architecture, maybe a park or playground. Essentially something that requires an open space in an outdoor environment. Kongjian Yu, A landscape architect has done some amazing work in his field. I like the utilization of his natural environment

Another amazing work by him was a sponge city. Sponge cities are meant as a preventive measure to urban flooding. Kongjian Yu is mainly known for these and has done some amazing work all over Asia.

"The destruction of my own paradise is what makes me think that we need a revolution”; the core of that revolution is the “sponge cities” concept" (Yu: 2022)

Another idea I had sort of stemmed from my home sickness. I started to think of Nigeria and what we struggle with as a nation and what came to my mind was electricity. There is no stable electric power there, due to that my second idea is doing a residential building (a duplex, bungalow or apartments ) that is energy efficient

Although this is not an example of residential architecture it is a perfect example of harnessing renewable energy. This stadium is the first of it's kind to power itself using purely solar energy consisting of  8,844 solar panels. The solar panels convert solar energy (sunlight) to electrical energy helping them stadium to be energy dependent.

I like the idea of doing an energy self sufficient building as it is more reliable and better for the preservation of our environment as renewable energy will always replenish itself.
