     Aaeesha Braimoh is a Nigerian born and raised girl currently studying art and design at DMUIC and plans to progress unto Architecture in the next year. Since childhood, she has been quite passionate about art. She had her first exhibition for charity when she was in Grade 5 effectively selling her first painting at the age of 10 thereby launching her on a journey to become an architect. She developed the specific interest for architecture after being gifted a Lego set on her birthday and completely discarding the instructions to build in her little bubble of creativity and ever since then she has been gradually developing her skills.

     Aaeesha is inspired by Francis Kéré who has a dual purpose of creating good and innovative design and aims to changes communities through social commitment.  Aaeesha has a similar vision in that she  hopes to bring more creativity into residential architecture in Nigeria. She wants to be able to include organic forms and compositions into sustainable designs. To do this she intends to be able to design buildings fully using only locally sourced materials. Aaeesha once she has completed her studies intends to set up her architecture firm  in Lagos, Nigeria and really change social attitudes to architectural design in her home town.

Update- I have now taken my picture at the studio and have uploaded it unto my about page. I also edited the section background as well. Below is the final page.

I am choosing Mick Pearce as he is an architect who has done a lot of work in restoring and transforming buildings (mainly in Central Africa) while also minimizing damage to the environment. In recent years he has done more sustainable architecture involving biomimicry and most recently, passive cooling systems. 'An original and innovative architect, Mick Pearce is particularly renowned for his work on the bio-ecological aspects of the built environment.' (Prince Claus Fund, n.d.). Initial Ideas (Crazy Eights)

After looking at the project brief of the three themes (Primitivism, pop art, industrial) we were tasked with generating ideas based on our chosen theme. I chose primitivism as my theme as I think it gives me a more creative route and the theme is a bit broader than the rest. I started with creating a mind map I wrote down all the things I associated with the theme such as nature, history, land and so on. This helped me not to think too much on the specifics and to see how many different sections of primitivism I could choose from when creating the final project. After that we did a task called 'Crazy Eights' which required us to draw our ideas and develop them within a set time frame as it was supposed to be just a quick sketch of what we were thinking about regarding the project at the time. Research Post: Abijo Mosque by PWDC

 In this piece of research, I will be looking at the design of the Abijo Mosque in Lagos, Nigeria done by Patrickwaheed Design Consultancy (PWDC). The building takes it's name from the location and was a donation to the Abijo community through an organization called 'Crescent Bearers' in order to promote religious, social and cultural community centered activities.   Abijo Mosque (2020) by Patrickwaheed Design Consultancy   The buildings style is of contemporary architecture while also combining some geometric elements in its structure. It also takes inspiration from traditional Yoruba mud buildings as a way to reflect on the culture and environment of the people. The building can be entered from three different sides and there is a mezzanine floor level with a separate entrance for the female worshippers.
