Research Post: Site and Demographics

The location of my building is in Adeyemo Alakija street in Nigeria. This street is located in GRA, Ikeja which is the capital city of Lagos State. As of the last census done in 2016, this city had a population of 317,614 which has then increased over the years with a projection of 470,200 residents in 2022 (citypopulation.de, 2022)

This city is a well-planned residential and commercial town which houses the wealthier citizens living in the mainland of the country. The Lagos State House, which is one out of the two residential houses the Governor of Lagos state owns and resides in is located in GRA, Ikeja. GRA initially housed only government officials (as the name stands for Government Reserved Area) hence why many of them still live there and it is still considered an exclusive place to live in till date. 'In Nigeria, GRA - can be interpreted to be a euphemism for affluence and a better standard of living' ( Emordi, 2022). The Governor of Lagos State residing there also contributes to the cleanliness and management of the city. Everything is well maintained, and the security measures put in place are very effective

Ikeja is a filled with many amenities spread all over the city. It is home to different public parks and has a wide variety of both primary and secondary schools to choose from. It also houses the major shopping centre  Lagos, Ikeja City Mall. Murtala Muhammed International Airport which is the major airport in Nigeria for international flights is also located there and as a result of that several airlines have their head quarters in Ikeja

According to citypopulation.de (2022), there are more men than women residing in Ikeja with 54.1% being males and 45.9% being females and the majority of the population ranging from 20-29 years of age
