Welcome Post- Art Portfolio 2

Welcome to term 3! In this term I will be creating a second art portfolio project and my further blog posts will show the processes towards achieving that. I will share what I learnt last term, what I am looking forward to this term and also what I would like to improve on

Last term I developed my drawing skills especially when looking at building designs. I learnt a lot during the development stage of my project on how to approach designing and how to construct my ideas more properly. I believe I made the most improvement in my drawing skills.

For this term I would like to continue improving my drawing skills especially when developing my ideas. I want to get better at perspective drawing and maybe also explore the use of pro markers. I also want to improve my time management skills because last term I spent so much time at a particular stage that I ended up not giving my best in others

Skills I would like to explore this term is the use of digital tools, last term I did not use common architectural software like sketchup because I could only create basic house designs on it and not things more complex. This term I don't want to completely abandon these kind of ideas but instead work with using 3D and 2D processes simultaneously in order to better myself in those areas. Learning more about perspective and how to apply it to my 2D drawings is something I want to develop. Over the break, I was in both Leicester and London, when outside I took pictures of buildings that I could draw to help me improve on my perspective. One example is this tudor architecture styled building I passed by on my way to the Leicester city centre. Practicing with buildings I have come face to face with can help me to improve on this skill.

After seeing this terms brief, I am looking forward to making a more put together portfolio not only in my designs but also the way I present the images and the research I put out aswell. I hope to keep improving my skills in different areas so I will more than ready to start my undergraduate journey at DMU.

  1. Okay, good start to the term. I think it would be wise to do some Sketchup tutorials online (although we may also arrange some workshops this term if there is time) but alongside this practise the concept sketching you did with me during last term - if you want help with this, I will be happy to make some time or give you some further materials to work with. Both of these skills will be an important part of what you will be doing during your first year of undergraduate.
getting to know more about what the workshops have to offer for this terms model making task for AP2 will also be useful. These are the kinds of things you could be doing in your study time at the beginning of this term over the first few weeks!

Remember to post your mind map and initial ideas in the next post before the first Art Portfolio session of Week 2.
