Reflection Of the Term
As this term and academic year comes to an end, I have taken some time to reflect on the work I have accomplished and the growth I have experienced over the last nine months. I began this term by going through the brief for my final project in Art Portfolio 2 where I was tasked with designing a library for the town of New Cromwell. Unlike last term, when I struggled to transfer my ideas into tangible designs, this time I had all my ideas and inspirations early on and was able to take those ideas and illustrate them properly which showed an improvement in my creative process. Last term, I had a late start with my project development as I struggled to get my thought on paper and draw them out. However, I spent time improving my skills both in the previous term and during the holiday which helped me to set a proper pace for this term's project. Creating a mind map and engaging in different development exercises during and outside of classes also contributed to that. In addition, any time I found myself unable to picture a part of a design in my mind I took up making cardboard models. I discovered that I preferred working with my hands and being able to physically adjust the concept. This term, I was able to figure what method of learning worked best for me which also helped me with my process of development.
Additionally, I also carried out some research work. I believe my research posts and my writings were the best during this term. The continuous practice in research during the first two terms, as well as the Contextual Studies Module, has contributed significantly to my growth. When I compare my writing from the first term to now, there is a clear improvement. I also branched out into other forms of research such as Primary Research. I was able to go out and physically analyze buildings which not only helped me to enhance my critical analysis skills but also influenced aspects of my design such as the layout and understanding how architecture works with environment. Engaging in this research gave me a more hands-on understanding and application of architecture principles. I await doing more of this type of research when I progress to my architecture course and doing this has better prepared me for whats to come. By broadening my research approach I have gained valuable insights that will be beneficial for my course work
This term was more self directed than the previous ones, which taught me how to be more independent with my work and also contributed to my time management skills. I had to take full responsibility over my project and decide when and how I was going to approach it, which made me more organized and disciplined. The unavailability of the workshop further pushed me to be able to manage things myself and take initiative. It helped me to be able to come up with alternative solutions to problems further strengthening my problem solving abilities. I spent a lot of time in self study which made me more self reliant and boosted my confidence in handling challenges independently.
Overall, this module has been crucial in helping me developing my ability to work autonomously, has not only helped me improve my existing skills but also introduced me to new ones, and has boosted my confidence and now I am optimistic about what is ahead. I have learnt so much this year and I'm grateful for the experience and also excited for what the future holds
