SMART Objective: Major Architectural project

Image
For my architectural project this term I will be designing a residential home for a family of four. The home will make use of solar energy as its major source of power. The site will be located at Adeyemo Alakija Street in Nigeria which is within an estate community so it is a residential area. For this project I will create 4-6 architectural design boards that will include the drawing of my concept, the floorplan, elevations , the details of the location, environmental factors and the demographic of the area. The final project will be completed by the deadline at the beginning of March Solar powered home

Major Project: Initial Ideas

Image
In this term I will be working on a project that represents my progression route. I have been looking more into sustainability so I would like to do something that involves that. My portfolio will consist of 2-4 design boards that shows my concept I was thinking of doing something that has to do with landscape architecture, maybe a park or playground. Essentially something that requires an open space in an outdoor environment. Kongjian Yu, A landscape architect has done some amazing work in his field. I like the utilization of his natural environment hing hay park (2013) by Kongjian Yu Another amazing work by him was a sponge city . Sponge cities are meant as a preventive measure to urban flooding. Kongjian Yu is mainly known for these and has done some amazing work all over Asia.                                                Banjakitti Forest Park (2022) by Ko...

Final advert and reflection

Image
Here is my final advert...     I really like the outcome of this advert and finding an image to match was easy. As I said before I wanted something that could easily communicate the purpose of this advert. The hardest part of this whole process for me was probably the research aspect and coming up with an idea of what I wanted to do. I used aspects of pink a lot in this because that is the colour for breast cancer awareness. I am also happy that I was able to find a picture that was able to portray an effect of breast cancer (the right breast) and how most women would have probably looked before it was able to affect their lives (left breast). I'm happy with what I was able to put as my final result especially in limited time

Creating an advert : Final process

Image
Now that I've gotten my ideas I will now create the advert like we practiced in class on Pixlr E I started by opening pixlr and clicking on ''Create New'' and a dialog box appeared. I went to the print section and selected ''A3''. I then added a title and a white background. This created my canvas and I left it in the portrait orientation     I then went to file, clicked on "open image". My image which I got from pexels appeared on the  screen, I clicked on "select all", "edit"  and copied my image. After that i went to my canvas, clicked on "edit" then pasted it. I also used the crop tool to remove the white corners       I also created a logo for my organisation. I called my organisation ''frog cancer" which is a playful way of condemning cancer. I edited the colour palette and this was my final result             Using the same process as before, I was able to get my logo on my advert. I u...

Creating an Advert: Research

Image
I am creating a campaign for breast cancer . In this post I will be looking at my target market which will be both Generation X and baby boomers. I will be looking at their behaviour habits and how they generally respond to ads.  Baby boomers being the oldest and most populous generation would still have traditional ways of consuming adverts like newspapers, magazines and radios but seeing as we're also in the 21st century and the age of technology, one would assume that they also consume through the televisions and social media apps (mainly Facebook) as well. Even though baby boomers are catching up with technology, a lot of adverts may not influence them as they may feel underrepresented in media. " As a result of a hyper-focus on remaining relevant with the ‘right’ consumers, marketers are leaving older generations behind" (Harlow: 2023)       Overlooked and Understudied     On the other hand Generation X is the smallest generation right between t...

Creating an Advert: Initial Ideas

Image
In class we discussed advert layout, typography and target market, branding and logo, We practiced using Pixlr in class and made a practice advert. I now have to think of my own ideas. I want to do a public awareness advert. My ideas are : An awareness campaign for depression in teens An awareness advert for breast cancer Firstly I would look at examples of  campaigns addressing depression in teens                                                                          Depression awareness This advert is clear that it is targeting teenagers. It has a clear slogan with an image to visualize it. I think it is good and addresses that most teenagers pretend to be okay when they're not by hiding behind a smile. It also shows some information and where to go/call for help. Transforming mental health...

Class Practice: Advert on Pixlr

Image
Today we looked at advertising in class. We looked at different adverts in class and their different properties like layout, logos and branding, their target audience and how the images were placed in the advert.    In this practice the theme is fashion and I've chosen women's fashion for Gen X    I went unto unsplash and selected some images that I thought would work for my advert. I had decided on  advertising jewelry. This was the first picture I used, I like that you can tell the highlight is the jewelry pieces and the background of the woman looked nice as well. I think its a bit hard to see the piece and you might be unsure about which of the jewelry is being advertised to so I didn't decide on it. I also selected this one. It's good that the jewelry is up close and the center of focus but i thought the background was too dark and didn't have enough spacing for my logo and tagline. This was the final photo I chose. The background is no...

Sequential images research

Image
Elliott Erwitt (1928-2023) was a photographer born in Paris to Russian parents who moved to America in 1939. He developed a love for photography and is now known for his black and white candid photos and his love for dogs. I have been learning sequential images in class and have done some research on him. I like him because of how he uses humor in his photographs to show basic human traits.     Sequentially Yours (2011) by Elliot Erwitt            I think this is a funny take on the relationship between a man and his dog. The sequence reverses the roles between man and pet as the man throws a stick in the pond, one would usually expect the dog to have chased after the stick but the third photo shows the dog standing and watching making it seem like his owner was the one who fetched the stick instead. When asked about his love for photographing dogs he states, ''I take a lot of pictures of dogs becau...

Sequential Images Class Practice

Image
In class this week I created sequential images. Sequential images are images that follow a specific order to tell a story. In class we practiced taking sequential images with our partners, I did it as group with another student and did it using an iPhone 13 and you can see further details below. We also learnt to convert pictures to jpeg or png formats and how to create contact sheets of said sequence.      I used dolls to create a sequence called "The attack". The pictures were in HEIC which i converted to jpeg.  I then created contact sheets of my images using an online contact sheet generator as seen below   The next thing I did was edit my images on Pixlr using Pixlr E editor. I opened Pixlr E amd clicked on ''create new''. I then get a dialog box and go to the  print section and chose "A3". I gave my image a name and chose a white background and clicked create. I now have a canvas on Pixlr. The next thing I did was choose my images. These image...

Welcome to Blueprinting with Aaeesha!

Image
Welcome to my blog! My name is Aaeesha and I am a student at DMUIC and my specialism is architecture. I will be using my blog to show some of my art pieces and my progress as a student at DMUIC in finding my own unique style. So be sure to follow as you may find inspiration. An architect I take inspiration from is Diébédo Francis Kéré. Born in Burkina Faso, he was the first African to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. He mainly inspires me because of his tendency to use of locally available materials in a creative way while also serving aesthetic and functional qualities. My favourite work by him is the Lycée Schorge Secondary School in Burkina Faso.     Lycée Schorge Secondary School (2014-2016) by Diébédo Francis Kéré     Lycée Schorge Secondary School (2014-2016) by Diébédo Francis Kéré     I have developed an interest in vernacular architecture as someone from an African country (Nigeria). I think it shows that locally produced materials can...
